The third time was the charm for Eva Becerril.
Becerril, a Sycamore junior, finished tied for 20th in the OHSAA Division I state final as a freshman in 2022 before a 19th-place tie last year. Becerril shot a 68 on the second day of the 2024 tournament to finish alone at the top as the Division I state medalist.
Becerril, who won her second Greater Miami Conference Athlete of the Year award earlier in the season, shot a 75 after the tournament's first day and was tied for eighth place, five strokes behind Olentangy's Meadow Tian.

Becerril dominated on day two, shooting a 68 to finish with a 143, winning the championship by three strokes. Her round was the only sub-70 round in the girls Division I tournament and one of only six across all of the OHSAA state finals this season.
Becerril became the second local golf state championship after Wyoming's Finley Bartlett won his second Division II state title.
